Behavior Modification sessions are guided relaxations that use positive affirmations and suggestions to create a physical and mental balance and well-being. All hypnosis is self-hypnosis. You are willingly calming your mind and body and increasing your ability to focus within. You are in control and aware of your surroundings at all times. You can then use this technique to take yourself back to that place within and use your own positive affirmations to create wellness in your life. In this state of total relaxation, you are then able to learn to let go of the stress, anxiety and the emotional baggage of life. You then free yourself to move forward leaving behind the past while gaining the ability to live in the moment and making positive life changes.
SO PSYCHOLOGICALLY ... HOW DOES HYPNOSIS WORK?
In general, the hypnosis exercises help all of your body and its powers to work together with all of your mind. Right now, possibly, because of tension, conflict, and fears, your body is working under emergency conditions utilizing only a fraction of your strength, and perhaps even operating against the conscious wishes of your mind. Right now, too, because of mental stagnation, boredom, loneliness, unhappiness, or lack of self-confidence, your mind is working under extreme pressure conditions and utilizing only a fraction of its power.
In reaching a state of hypnosis you can begin to see things in a new way. One by one, you can remove the causes keeping you from living a fully integrated and balanced life, with all power of mind-body working in harmony and to their fullest capacities.
GOING THROUGH A TYPICAL BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION SESSION
I would like to describe my personal approach to Behavior Modification sessions with my clients:
First we will visit with each other in a Pre-Talk about the hypnosis process, what it will feel like, expectations, why hypnosis works, etc. We will discuss what it is that you wish to work on or change. I also give you time to ask me any questions about hypnosis that you have so you are feeling very comfortable and ready to enjoy the experience. Anything that is said to me is always held in strict confidentiality.
We live in a very fast paced world and it is easy to get caught up in it's rhythm and chaos. When we struggle with destructive behaviors or addictions we are usually just trying to cope in some way or zone out for a time, or we may be unconsciously sabotaging ourselves. I believe these negative behaviors are often just symptoms of something much deeper. When we deal only with the symptoms, we are only putting a band aid on the surface. As a example, if you take an aspirin for a headache you may find relief, but it is not ultimately taking care of the cause. This is why it is so important to find out what your core issue or issues may be.
This is not hard or magical, but a very thought provoking process. From my personal experiences and talking with client after client, the answers are very often....not loving and accepting who we are, unconditionally, and the inner dialog that we say consciously or unconsciously! We need to pay attention to these self-defeating thoughts and our reactions to these thoughts; our emotions. Does it take practice, you bet it does, but I have also seen great progress and great changes made through realizing this concept. Using hypnosis is such an effective way to help you open up to yourself, remove the stumbling blocks of old thinking patterns, and begin to live in conscious awareness.
You are then really able to see things in a new way making life a joyful and exciting place to be. Everyday and in every moment, we have choice.
HOW MANY TIMES DO I NEED HYPNOSIS?
I am often asked "How many times do I need to come for a hypnosis session? It depends on you. You may have two or three issues that you would like to work on, that is very common. As an example, you have decided after gaining some extra pounds that you really want to lose that extra weight. After we discuss some of your triggers and times that you desire to eat and what types of foods you crave, we will then dig down to find out what is actually causing that behavior. I promise that you already know the correct way to eat; however, the thoughts you have surrounding this issue is what is actually keeping you stuck. It may be that you are criticizing yourself, judging and putting yourself down. You may be dealing with past hurts or abandonment issues. It may be that you are dealing with stress or a need to control. When you recognize and release the causes (which are the thoughts creating your feelings and reactions), we can then reinforce positive change thinking, which in turn, creates positive feelings, behaviors, and positive results. You can then continue with self-hypnosis and putting in your own positive affirmations and suggestions to support your progress. My goal here is not being a hypnotist alone, but a Life Coach, teaching tools that can be used the rest of your life.
I suggest you practice self-hypnosis regularly because the more you practice, the more familiar it will feel, and the easier it will be to quiet your mind in times of need.
